Cycling trail Vrata

Cycling trail under the North Triglav Wall.

The trail starts from the car park in front of the Slovenian Alpine Museum. Continue in the direction of the Vrata valley. After 300 m, turn right uphill and drive to the hydroelectric power station at “Ros”. Continue for 300 m and turn right uphill at the crossroads – 1.75 km. The road slowly turns into a macadam road, which you follow all the way towards Peričnik. A little further on is a bridge and above it looms the lower Peričnik Waterfall, which is 52 m high. Above the lower waterfall is the upper one, which is not visible from the road, but you can climb up to both of them on foot.

From Peričnik, the road starts to climb slowly, and after 400 m we have the steepest climb on our tour. The steepest climb is 1.6 km, 190 m. The climb is mostly on asphalt road, the flat parts are gravel. After the climb, the road climbs slowly and is gravel except for the last climb before the car park. At the end of the car park there is a gate, and after the gate there is another 200 m to the Aljaž’s lodge in Vrata – 9.6 km, 1.015 m.

From the house, continue along the road and after 450 metres you will reach a rock with a large wedge with a crampon driven into it, where you will have a beautiful view of the Triglav Northern Wall – 10.1 km, 1,020 m.

From the lookout point, head back towards Mojstrana and follow the road all the way until we reach our starting point – 20.2 km.

WARNING: The road to Vrata valley is very busy, especially during the peak of mountaineering season (July, August), so caution will not be superfluous.
