The Church of St. Thomas

For admirers of Late Antiquity

The Church of St. Thomas is the older of the two churches in Rateče. The cemetery church with a belfry from the 14th century was mainly built in theRomanesque style, with a Gothic extension of presbytery.

The stations of the Cross in it were painted by the last Slovenian Baroque painterLeopold Layer.

The Rateče/Celovec manuscript, which represents the second oldest preserved written record in the Slovenian language, is said to be written here.
