The biosphere reserve of the Julian Alps.
The Julian Alps are the highest mountain range in Slovenia. They lie in north-western Slovenia and in north-eastern Italy. Appropriate to their greatness they were named after Gaius Julius Caesar.
Since 2003, the Julian Alps have been declared a biosphere reserve in the framework of the UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), which means they receive special protection for their natural resources and biodiversity.
